FIRST CLASS
First-Class Mail includes all personal and business correspondence, bills and statements of account. Any mailable item may be sent as First-Class Mail provided it weighs 13 ounces or less. Pieces over 13 ounces are considered Priority Mail.

Single-Piece Rates
First ounce $0.37
Each additional ounce $0.23

Dimensions

Minimum: 3-1/2 inches high by 5 inches long by 0.007 inch thick.
Maximum: 4-1/4 inches high by 6 inches long by 0.016 inch thick.

Postcards over the maximum height or length dimensions are charged letter rates.

PRIORITY MAIL
Priority Mail offers 2-3 day service to most domestic destinations. Items must weigh 70 pounds or less and measure 108 inches or less in combined length and girth. Mark each package "Priority Mail" in the postage area or use a  USPS-provided Priority Mail envelope or box. Priority Mail envelopes, labels and boxes are available at no additional charge at the Branch Post Office.  For packages over 5 pounds, rates are based on the weight of the piece and the zone (distance from origin to destination ZIP Code).  For detailed rates, see the  U.S. Postal Rates section.

Priority Mail Flat-Rate Envelope

The cost is $3.85, regardless of weight or destination, for a mailing piece sent in a flat-rate envelope provided by the USPS.

EXPRESS MAIL
Express Mail is our fastest service, with next day delivery by 12 noon to most destinations. All packages must use an Express Mail label. Items must weigh 70 pounds or less and measure 108 inches or less in combined length and girth.  For Post Office to Addressee Service Rates, please refer to the U.S. Postal Rates section.

Express Mail envelopes, labels and boxes are available at no additional charge at the Branch Post Office. Services include merchandise and document reconstruction, tracking and tracing, delivery to post office boxes and rural addresses, domestic rates for  APO and FPO addresses, money-back guarantee, Return Receipt service and waiver of signature. Insurance is provided at no additional cost up to $500.

Express Mail Flat-Rate Envelope 
The cost is $13.65, regardless of weight or destination, for a mailing piece sent in a flat-rate envelope provided by the  USPS.

PERIODICALS
Special rate provided for regularly published papers, pamphlets, publications or books. There must be a minimum of four issues each year. Application to mail at the periodical class rate must be made at the  USPS.

STANDARD MAIL
Standard Mail consists of mailable matter that is neither mailed or required to be mailed as First-Class mail.

The mailing must consist of at least 200 identical addressed pieces prepared according to USPS standards.

Two methods of postage are available to standard mail users:

  1. Permit Indicia No. 68—Users may have the standard mail permit No. 68 indicia printed in the upper right hand corner of the address side of each piece.
  2. Meter Postage—Postage may be affixed to each mail piece by meter.

PACKAGE SERVICES

Parcel Post
Used for mailing items such as books, circulars, catalogs and other printed matter weighing not more than 70 pounds. Parcel Post must measure 130 inches or less in combined length and girth. Pieces exceeding 108 inches but not more than 130 inches in combined length and girth are mailable at Parcel Post oversized rates.

Mark each package "Parcel Post" in the postage area.

Bound Printed Matter
Bound Printed Matter must:

  1. Consist of advertising, promotional, directory or editorial material (or any combination of such material).
  2. Be securely bound by permanent fastenings such as staples, spiral binding, glue or stitching (looseleaf binders and similar fastenings are not considered permanent).
  3. Consist of sheets of which at least 90% are imprinted by a process other than handwriting or typewriting with words, letters, characters, figures or images (or any combination of them).

The maximum weight for Bound Printed Matter is 15 pounds. Rates are based on the weight of the piece and the zone (distance from origin to destination ZIP Code). Articles must measure 108 inches or less in combined length and girth.

Mark each package "Bound Printed Matter" in the postage area.

Media Mail (Book Rate)
Generally used for books (at least eight pages), film (16 mm or narrower), printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, and computer-readable media. Advertising restrictions apply.

Packages must measure 108 inches or less in combined length and girth.

Mark each package "Media Mail" in the postage area.


SPECIAL SERVICES

Certificate of Mailing  
Provides evidence of mailing only. A certificate of mailing does not provide a record of delivery and must be purchased at time of mailing. Available for First-Class Mail, Priority Mail, Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter and Media Mail. For an additional fee, a Certificate of Mailing may be combined with parcel airlift service (PAL) or special handling. Items with a Certificate of Mailing must be presented to an employee of the  USPS.

Fee in addition to postage—$0.90

Certified Mail
Provides the sender with a mailing receipt. The USPS maintains a delivery record. No insurance provided. Available with First-Class Mail and Priority Mail. For an additional fee, certified mail may be combined with restricted delivery or return receipt.

Fee in addition to postage—$2.30

Delivery Confirmation (Retail)
Provides information about the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. Delivery confirmation may be purchased at the time of mailing only. Mailers may retrieve delivery status through the Internet or the toll-free number 800-222-1811. Available for Priority Mail, Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter and Media Mail.

For an additional fee, Delivery Confirmation may be combined with COD, Insured Mail, Registered Mail, Return Receipt for Merchandise (Form 3804) or special handling.

Fee in addition to postage:
Priority Mail - $0.45
Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter, and Media Mail - $0.55

Insured Mail
Provides coverage against loss or damage. Coverage up to $5,000 for Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter and Media Mail as well as merchandise mailed at Priority or First-Class Mail rates. Items must not be insured for more than their value. Insured mail may be presented to an employee at a post office.

The Insurance Coverage Fee is in addition to postage.  Please refer to the  U.S. Postal Rates section for exact costs.

Money Order
Provides safe transmission of money. Available in amounts up to $1,000.

Fee per money order $0.90 (up to $500.00); $1.25 (for $500.01 up to $1,000.00)

Return Receipt for Merchandise
Provides the sender with a mailing receipt and a Return Receipt. Return Receipt supplies the recipient's actual address if different from the address used by the sender. A delivery record is maintained by the  USPS.

Available for merchandise sent as Priority Mail, Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter and Media Mail. May be combined with Delivery Confirmation, Insurance (for up to $50), parcel airlift service or special handling.

Fee in addition to postage:
Showing to whom delivered, signature, date, and addressee’s address (if different)—$3.00
 

Registered Mail
Provides maximum protection and security for valuables. Provides a sender with a mailing receipt. A record of mailing is maintained at the mailing post office.

Available only for items mailed at Priority Mail and First-Class Mail rates. May be combined with COD, Delivery Confirmation, Restricted Delivery, Return Receipt or Signature Confirmation. Postal insurance is provided for articles with a declared value up to a maximum of $25,000.

Registered Mail must be presented to an employee of the  USPS.

Fee is based on the value of the article being sent.

Restricted Delivery
Permits a mailer to direct delivery only to the addressee or addressee’s authorized agent. The addressee must be an individual specified by name. May be combined with Delivery Confirmation, parcel airlift service (PAL), Return Receipt, Signature Confirmation or special handling. Available for First-Class Mail, Priority Mail, Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter and Media Mail that is sent Certified Mail, COD, Insured Mail for more than $50, or Registered Mail.

Fee in addition to postage—$3.50

Return Receipt
Provides a mailer with evidence of delivery. Also supplies the recipient’s actual delivery address if it is different from the address used by the sender. A Return Receipt may be requested before or after delivery. Available only for Express Mail, Certified Mail, COD, Insured Mail for more than $50 or Registered Mail.

Fee in addition to postage:
Requested at time of mailing: Showing to whom delivered, signature, date and addressee’s address (if different)—$1.75
Requested after mailing: Showing to whom and date delivered—$3.25

Signature Confirmation (Retail)
Provides the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. May be purchased at the time of mailing only. Mailers may retrieve delivery information through the USPS Internet site (http://www.usps.com)  or the toll-free number 800-222-1811. A delivery record, including the recipient’s signature, is maintained by the USPS and is available via fax or mail upon request. No acceptance record is kept at the office of mailing. Waiver of signature is optional.

Available for: Priority Mail, Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter and Media Mail.

Not available for: APO/FPO destinations, U.S. territories, possessions and freely-associated states in Domestic Mail Manual G011 (except for Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, for which service is available).

For an additional fee, signature confirmation may be combined with: COD, Insured Mail, Registered Mail or special handling. Restricted delivery is available if purchased with insurance for over $50, COD or Registered Mail.
