Murder / Criminal Homicide |

The index crime of murder is the willful killing of a person. It
also includes voluntary manslaughter, which is the death of a person caused by gross
negligence of any individual other than the victim.

(non-negligent) killing of one
human being by another.

- Manslaughter by Negligence: the killing of another person through gross
negligence.

Rape / Sexual Assault Offenses |
Criminal Sexual Assault* -

Definition (definition in use for 1990 & 1991)
*There is no crime of rape on the statute books in the State of IL.
Therefore, the crime category of "rape" does not appear in the Federal
publication entitled, "Crime in the United States" published by the U.S. Dept.
of Justice, for any State of IL law enforcement agency that appears in the publication.
The State of IL publication entitled, "Crime in Illinois"
published by the IL State Police, does reflect statistics for criminal sexual assault.
Therefore, any requirement to publish rape statistics are done in compliance with
the laws for the State of IL and state UCR reporting guidelines, i.e., the crime of
"criminal sexual assault" is reported in place of "rape." |
The index crime of criminal sexual assault includes all sexual assaults,
completed and attempted, aggravated and non-aggravated against all genders.

| Sex Offenses: Forcible and Non-Forcible -

- A forcible sex offense is any sexual act directed against another person, forcibly
and/or against that person's will; or not forcibly or against the person's will where the
victim is incapable of giving consent. Forcible sex offenses include forcible
rape,
forcible sodomy, sexual assault with an object, and forcible fondling.

- Non-forcible sex offenses are acts of unlawful,
non-forcible sexual intercourse.
They include incest and statutory rape.

Robbery |
| Robbery and/or armed robbery is the taking of, or attempt to take,
anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person by force, threat of force
or violence, and/or putting the victim in fear of receiving serious person injury. |
Aggravated Assault / Aggravated
Battery |
| Aggravated assault and/or attempted murder is the intentional causing of,
or attempt to cause, serious bodily harm, or the threatening of serious bodily injury or
death. Aggravated battery is the furtherance of the assault whereby physical
contact is made resulting in great bodily harm. |
Burglary / Burglary to Motor Vehicle |
| Burglary is the unlawful entry of a building,
house-trailer, watercraft,
aircraft, or motor vehicle as defined by the Illinois Vehicle Code, railroad car, or any
part thereof, with intent to commit a felony or theft. This category includes
attempts. |
Vehicle Theft |
| Vehicle theft is the unlawful taking or stealing of a motor
vehicle. The category includes attempts. |
Arson |
| Arson or Aggravated Arson is the willful or
malicious burning of, or
attempt to burn, with or without intent to defraud, a dwelling house, public building,
motor vehicle, aircraft, or personal property. |
Hate Crime |
| A hate crime, also known as a bias crime, is a criminal offense committed
against a person, property, or society which is motivated, in whole or in part, by the
offender's bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or
ethnicity/national origin. (NIBRS Definition) A hate crime occurs when, by
reason of the race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, physical
or mental disability, or national origin of another individual or group of individuals,
someone commits assault, battery, aggravated assault, misdemeanor theft, criminal trespass
to residence, misdemeanor criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to vehicle,
criminal trespass to real property or mob action as these crimes are defined in the
Illinois Compiled Statutes. (State of IL-UCR definition) |

Drug offenses are violations against unlawful possession, sale, use,
growing, and manufacturing of narcotic drugs and the devices and paraphernalia associated
with them.

Violations of State and local laws relating to the unlawful possession,
sale, use, growing, manufacturing, and making of narcotic drugs. The relevant
substances include: opium or cocaine and their derivatives (morphine, heroin,
codeine); marijuana; synthetic narcotics (demerol, methadones); and dangerous
non-narcotic
drugs (barbituates, benzedrine).

Alcohol offenses are violations relating to drunkenness, driving under
the influence, transportation of alcohol, and illegal consumption and possession of
minors.

The violation of laws or ordinances prohibiting: the manufacture,
sale, transporting, furnishing, possessing of intoxicating liquor; maintaining unlawful
drinking places; bootlegging; operating a still; furnishing liquor to a minor or
intemperate person; using a vehicle for illegal transportation of liquor; drinking on a
train or public conveyance; and all attempts to commit any of the aforementioned.
(Drunkenness and driving under the influence are not included in this definition.)

controlling the carrying, using, possessing, furnishing, and manufacturing of deadly
weapons or silencers.

The violation of laws or ordinances dealing with weapon offenses,
regulatory in nature, such as: manufacture, sale, or possession of deadly weapons;
carrying deadly weapons, concealed or openly; furnishing deadly weapons to minors, aliens
possessing deadly weapons; and all attempts to commit any of the aforementioned.
