HATE CRIMES BY CATEGORY OF PREJUDICE AND LOCATION

Reported to the Office of Student Affairs

 The 1998 amendments to 20 U.S.C. 1082(f), require Colleges and Universities to publish data regarding Hate Crimes by category of prejudice, effective with calendar year 1998.  A geographical breakdown, as to where this type of crime occurred, must also be provided for the following categories:  (1) Campus; (2) Noncampus building or property; (3) Public property.

 All offenses involving students that are reported to University Police are also referred to the Office of Student Affairs for campus disciplinary action.  Therefore, please use figures with caution when making statistical comparisons or compilations.

NOTICE

 

All offenses involving students that are reported to the Office of Student Affairs for campus disciplinary action, come from many sources.  Such as, University Police, Housing, Various Units on Campus, Individual members of our Faculty, Staff, and Students, and the Office of Cultural Awareness and Diversity.  Therefore, please use figures with caution when making statistical comparisons or compilations.

Definition of Campus:  (1) Any building or property owned or controlled by an institution within the same reasonably contiguous geographic area and used by the institution in direct support of, or in a manner related to, the institution’s educational purposes, including residence halls; and (2) Any building or property that is within or reasonably contiguous to the area identified in paragraph (1); that is owned by the institution but controlled by another person, is frequently used by students, and supports institutional purposes.
