The 1998 Amendments to the Federal Act require that statistical data for 1998 and beyond, be broken down by the following categories:   (1) Campus; (2) Non-campus building or property; (3) Public property.  Please refer to the definitions and Zone Reports , #A, #B and #C, for this statistical data.

2000 Offenses Reported to University Police

Definition of Campus:   (1) Any building or property owned or controlled by an institution within the same reasonably contiguous geographic area and used by the institution in direct support of, or in a manner related to, the institution's educational purposes, including residence halls; and (2) Any building or property that is within or reasonably contiguous to the area identified in paragraph (1), that is owned by the institution but controlled by another person, is frequently used by students, and supports institutional purposes.

*The 1998 amendments to the Act, required that the category of Murder be changed to Criminal Homicide, to include the offenses of Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter; and Negligent Manslaughter.

**The 1998 amendments to the Act required that the crime of Arson be listed as a reportable offense under this Act, effective with the Fall 1999 report and thereafter.  (Calendar years affected:  1996 to the present).

***The Hate Crimes category was expanded as a result of the 1998 amendments to the Act.  In addition to Arrest Statistics, See Hate Crimes by Category of Prejudice, for years 1998 to present, tabulated in detail elsewhere in this report.
